a very firm heads up because i have been told my main verse can seem daunting and puts off others within the fandom : please know that I do not expect any Inuyasha blogs that follow me to adhere to my canon , and I do offer verses that follow Inuyasha’s canon for them , but I welcome anyone who wants to take part in my canon to do so .Kagome is not all - powerful and I don’t expect her to be treated as such . I by default prefer to use honourifics in my writing for my Japanese muses , but if a partner dictates that they would rather not , I understand .   My logic is basically that honourifics play a key role in Japanese culture , especially in how you can more easily comprehend relationships between characters , and so I try to accurately use that when at all possible .   Just because I prefer using honourifics does not mean I am comfortable intermingling English and Japanese into my replies .   The only time you will ever see me using a Japanese phrase or term is if there is no English equivalent ( such as proper titles or objects ) for me to use .   I don’t mind if my partners do , it’s just my personal preference .

Kagome Higurashi was like any normal schoolgirl in modern - day Tokyo ; she was carefree and genuinely happy , with her worst worries centered around cute boys , the latest fashion , and passing math class . On her fifteenth birthday , she was pulled into a world completely unlike the one she’d always known … yet she kept relatively level - headed despite the sudden onslaught of yōkai targeting her , violence incited by her own fellow humans , and more death than she’d ever experienced in her life suddenly surrounding her . Kagome is a strong - willed person with bravery at her core .

Her heart is commented on several times for its purity , and she draws others to her like moths to a flame with her genuine kindness . Kagome is unforgiving of anyone who hurts others just for the fun of it , and of anyone that morally opposes her , but she isn’t necessarily against the belief that someone can change . Despite these positives to her character , Kagome is not without flaws : she is immature , given her age , and extremely hot - headed with a tendency to be self - destructively impulsive .   She is reckless in her courage , always willing to throw herself into danger , and though she always apologises after , this behaviour can also lead to her hurting some feelings as well .

REIRYOKU Kagome’s most well - attributed ability is the infinite amount of spiritual power hidden within her .   Even before her powers became unsealed , Kagome was often remarked for being on par with her former incarnation , Kikyō , in terms of spiritual strength .   However, as Kagome hasn’t been formally trained by anyone nearly as powerful as she , as of yet Kagome isn’t entirely sure what all she’s capable of doing with her power .REIKI PROJECTION Kagome can concentrate her reiki into more than just her arrows , as she is shown to be able to channel it through the palms of her hands in an offensive manner and she is shown to be able to cocoon her entire body in reiki in times of extreme duress in a defensive manner .PURIFICATION She is able to purify malevolent forces such as yōki and even Naraku's shōki by using her own reiki .  Kagome’s aura is always purifying the yōki , smog , and other negative aspects around her on a much smaller scale , she is also capable of purifying creatures or objects with her reiki using her hands or her arrows .   Midoriko was shown to be able to channel her reiki into a sword and it stands to reason that , if Kagome put forth the effort to learn how , she could do the same .   Kagome’s abilities of purification are also shown to be able to heal injuries of yōkai origin , though in canon she is only shown to be able to heal and remove poisons from those wounds .REIKI REFLECTION This is a defensive ability that mainly pertains for battles between miko , whether they be light - aligned or dark - aligned .   This is an ability that Kikyō demonstrated during her lifetime that Kagome can instinctively use as well : essentially, if her opponent is less powerful than she is , Kagome can simply redirect her opponents reiki back at them without having to use any of her own , using their own attack against them.ARCHERY While she had a rough start , Kagome has grown exponentially in her skill with the bow and arrow , showing herself to be an extremely competent marksman able to hit rapidly moving targets from great distances . The bow is her preferred choice in weapon , as it was initially the only one she trained herself in .REIKI TELEPORTATION After receiving the Azusa - yama no Chōkyū , Kagome is shown to have the power to strike whatever target she sets her heart on no matter where it is or what interposes itself between them .   It’s even shown that , if a hostage is held in place between Kagome and her target , she can make her arrow bypass the hostage and hit her enemy in their stead .

PASSIVE BARRIER IMMUNITY Kagome has the innate ability to pass through most spiritual shields without any negative side - effects , even those put up by someone of Kikyō’s caliber .TIME TRAVEL Kagome has the passive ability , originally granted to her by the shikōn and now a latent ability tied to her very soul , to activate the magic within the Bone - Eater’s Well and allow herself to travel between the years 1997 and 1497 .   It seems , as the years go on , that the well’s magic has a consistent travel period of five - hundred years into the past or present , meaning that if Kagome were to jump into the well in the year 200 , she would appear back in the year 1500 .TIME DISPLACEMENT Being that Kagome is not from the feudal era originally , the flow of her reiki seems to go against the flow of time itself , and once she wishes on the shikōn this becomes a permanent aspect of her reiki no matter what era she resides in .   This makes her immune to any kind of time - based magic, especially any that attempts to speed or slow the flow of time .SOUL LINK Kagome has been shown to have the ability to communicate telepathically with her former incarnation , Kikyō .   Though the two of them always had this ability , it took them fully accepting and trusting in one another to actually use it , and even after Kikyō’s death Kagome can still hear her voice in times of need .TRUE SIGHT Normal humans are normally damaged both physically and mentally simply by being near a large source of yōki , and thus they cannot go near or touch yōkai power sources without fear of losing their minds to the malevolence .   Kagome’s reiki shields her from these negative effects , leaving her unaffected and allowing her to touch yōkai easily , nor does she succumb to the negative feelings their auras can inspire or to any illusions cast by yōkai .   she is blissfully immune to the ill effects and possibly insanity - inducing auras of even those as powerful as gods , making her capable of standing against even those lauded and idolised as deities .Kagome has the ability to see and feel the auras around all living creatures , whether they be animal , human , or yōkai in nature .   This is an ability that she had to actively work on , as Kagome’s ability to sense yōki was clearly strong even in the very beginning of the series, but with practise it becomes a very central piece of her arsenal .   A side - effect of this is that Kagome is able to perceive or sense things that are otherwise normally undetectable to ordinary humans , such as ghosts or spirits .

This timeline covers the events of canon ( with the exception of Rumiko’s “everything happens within one school year” impossibility ) but is tied to my main verse , meaning it deviates after a certain point !   Please keep in mind that all of my main verse is subject to change depending on if I find any canon characters who want to participate in it !   If you have any questions , my IMs are always open !HEADS UP Dates may appear wonky due to time travel shenanigans .   It’s not that I’m bad at math , it’s just that Kagome pops between time periods a lot .

  • \~1043 An unnamed man becomes obsessed with Midoriko is eventually possessed by countless yōkai , over time becoming the entity later known as the yōkai of the shikōn no tama

  • \~1044 After seven days and seven nights of battling against the combined yōkai , Midoriko dies in order to create the shikōn no tama

  • July 6th 1476 Kikyō is born

  • \~1491 Kikyō is entrusted with the shikōn no tama , becoming its first guardian since Midoriko

  • Late April 1491 Kikyō meets Tsubaki , a grudge between the two is formed after a confrontation that leaves Tsubaki scarred

  • Early June 1491 Kikyō meets Inuyasha for the first time

  • Early June 1493 Kikyō saves a badly burned and dying bandit named Onigumo and begins tending to his wounds

  • Late July 1494 Onigumo becomes obsessed with Kikyō and is eventually possessed by countless yōkai , over time becoming the hanyō known as Naraku

  • August 1494 Kikyō dies after sealing Inuyasha to the Goshinboku in the aftermath of Naraku’s plot to pit the two of them against one another


  • April 20th 1982 Higurashi Kagome is born

  • Kagome is born with the shikōn no tama within her body , though she does not know it until much later

  • The yōkai of the shikōn no tama fears Kagome’s power , as Midoriko’s strength has seemingly only increased throughout her lifetimes , and creates the entity known as Magatsuhi to try and curb Kagome’s power

  • Magatsuhi , seeing the potential Kagome could have if left unchecked , places a seal on her true power

  • June 14th 1990 Higurashi Kenji dies in a car accident on his way home from a business trip

  • July 7th 1990 Higurashi Sōta is born

  • April 20th 1997 Higurashi Kagome turns 15 years old and is pulled into the old Bone Eater’s Well by Mistress Centipede

  • April 20th 1543 Kagome emerges from the Bone Eater’s Well to find herself thrown back in time to Japan’s Sengoku period

  • Kagome meets Kaede , Kikyō’s younger sister , who recognises that she very may well be Kikyō’s reincarnation

  • Kagome meets Inuyasha , who awakens from his fifty year slumber due to her presence

  • The shikōn no tama is ripped from Kagome’s body by Mistress Centipede , confirming her identity as Kikyō’s reincarnation

  • Kagome frees Inuyasha from Kikyō’s spell in order to defeat Mistress Centipede

  • Kagome and Inuyasha begin traveling together to gather the shards of the shikōn after Kagome accidentally shatters it

  • March 1998 Kagome graduates from junior high and begins her first year of high school

  • April 20th 1998 Higurashi Kagome turns 16 years old

  • April 17th 1545 The final battle against Naraku begins and wages for two days and two nights

  • April 20th 1999 Higurashi Kagome turns 17 years old on the day that the Bone Eater’s well returns her to her original time period , closing behind Inuyasha and locking her back on her side of the well

  • After the battle and before being returned to her era , Kagome is pulled into the void of the shikōn itself , where the jewel taunts her in an attempt to have her complete the cycle and replace Midoriko within it

  • Kagome refuses to break and , thinking she finally knows the true wish , wishes for the shikōn to disappear forever

  • == TIMELESS == Her wish comes true , in a sense , but it backfires without her knowledge and makes her the new host for the power of the shikōn

  • March 1999 Kagome begins her second year of high school

  • April 20th 2000 Higurashi Kagome turns 18 years old

  • June 6th 2000 The Bone Eater’s Well opens once more and allows Kagome to return to the other side , though it does not re - open for her ever again

  • In my canon - compliant verse , the Bone Eater's Well does not close after Kagome returns , allowing her and Inuyasha to still visit her family in the modern era whenever they wish .


  • June 6th 1546 Higurashi Kagome returns to the Sengoku period

  • Not too long after her return , villagers begin to comment that Kagome “hasn’t aged a day ,” which she initially takes as a compliment

  • It becomes more and more concerning as Kagome continues to not change at all , not growing a single inch or even gaining / losing weight

  • April 20th 1546 Higurashi Kagome turns 19 years old

  • Miroku pulls Kagome aside and gently tells her he worries about the effects of time travel on her , believing that she cannot age or change because she’s become a sort of paradox by returning to the past

  • April 20th 1548 Higurashi Kagome turns 20 years old

  • August 1548 Kagome and friends are invited to visit Matsudaira Hirotada and she learns of the legend of the moon bridge for the first time

  • While walking across the moon bridge , her reiki reacts to something ; the cause of this is still uncertain

  • December 1548 Kaede falls ill in the winter and passes away

  • April 20th 1553 Higurashi Kagome turns 25 years old

  • Inuyasha finally tells Kagome she isn’t aging , echoing Miroku’s concerns , and the two begin to investigate ways to fix it

  • The Bone Eater’s Well will not open for either of them , so Myōga begins searching far and wide for any answers he can find

  • August 1554 Kohaku is killed during a yōkai attack

  • June 1566 Sango passes away in her sleep

  • June 1567 Miroku falls ill and passes away

  • January 1567 Rin falls ill and passes away

  • Sesshōmaru stays behind to watch over Rin’s growing family tree , which would one day become the Higurashi line and would found the Higurashi shrine .

  • Inuyasha , Kagome , and Shippō decide to start traveling in search of answers , packing up and leaving Edō behind

  • February 13th 1906 Inuyasha passes away

  • \~1910 The remaining yōkai of the world go into hiding as human beings continue to advance

  • Sesshōmaru winds up the unwilling Lord of those remaining , much to Kagome’s amusement

  • Shippō has to leave Kagome to go into hiding as well , but often sneaks around to leave messages where only she can find them

  • March 2000 Kagome returns to Tokyo , Japan

  • June 6th 2000 Kagome watches herself jump into the Bone Eater’s Well for the final time and waits to see if anything changes

  • March 2034 Kagome returns to Tokyo , Japan once again to check in on her younger brother and meets Zero Kiryū , who saves her from a vampire attack

  CANON DIVERGENCE   Kagome wishes on the shikōn just as she did in canon and wishes for it to disappear ; however , the shikōn is something so powerful that it cannot simply cease to be without rewriting history and erasing itself from ever having been created .   Thus , all Kagome’s wish manages to do is destroy the host , not the deep well of power encased with — and thus it is her body that acts as the new host .


Kagome Higurashi , known as the shikōn miko , made the fateful wish that she hoped would rid the world of the accursed jewel : I wish for you to disappear !   Forever !While her wish was pure of heart and in the right vein , neither Kagome nor anyone else realised just how powerful the shikōn truly was .   Such a strong source of power could not simply disappear on a whim , not without Kagome having wished for it to go back in time and never exist in the first place , and so Kagome’s wish only managed to destroy the host and not the limitless power housed within .   The shikōn’s power , without a container , sought to become housed in the only other host that it had ties to : Kagome’s own body , her soul , that which had housed it for fifteen years .After the jewel’s disappearance , Kagome was temporarily returned back to her side of the well , and she stayed there for nearly two years to complete her highschool career , reconnect with her family , and finally tell her grandfather the true ending of the shikōn legend .   However , she missed her other family so much … and one day , as she leaned over the well and whispered as much to her seemingly lost friends , the well opened once again .   Kagome returned to her other family , living on the side of the well that had steadily become her home , against all the odds .   It seemed like happily ever after .Eventually , however , Kagome realised she was not aging .Though she despaired over the fact that she was steadily outliving her fellow human friends , the former traveling band of companions banded together once again to figure out why Kagome was no longer aging .   Myōga suggested that perhaps Kagome could not age or die because she didn’t technically exist yet ; essentially , Kagome had become a paradox by staying nearly 500 years in the past before she was even born , let alone the year she fell down the well in the first place . Thus , Kagome and Inuyasha decided to look eagerly towards the year 2000 , hoping that she will resume aging and become normal again once the timeline has come full circle .Years later during a raid on their village , Kagome was cut down by a rogue yōkai with a mortal wound , but before everyone’s eyes the wound healed within a few moments .   What should have killed her vanished in a pale glow of iridescent pink light , a light that everyone knew all too well , and it was with that flare of power that Inuyasha confirmed Kagome’s dread : her power had felt just like the shikōn , and it was because of that power that yōkai were becoming more and more drawn to their village .   Distressed , Kagome began to break down , terrified that she was no longer even human , watching as her friends died around her and the world changed with the years while she stood untouched by time .The wish had been the right one … hadn’t it ?


verse notes The ending is largely the same : Kagome does still get returned to her side of the well and stays to finish her last two years of high school , graduates , and eventually she returns to Inuyasha and her friends after seeing that the well is open again .This realisation that Kagome has become the shikōn’s new host does not come instantly .   At first , Kagome and Inuyasha simply believe that the seal on her powers hadn’t fully broken until that moment , writing it off as Kagome simply unlocking the full potential she’d always had .   It takes them several years , actually , for Inuyasha to realise that Kagome is not aging like Miroku and Sango , and several more for them to *begin forming theories on why that is *.Kagome did not go back to the feudal era just because she was in love with Inuyasha , nor do they immediately wind up together once she comes back .   This is mostly because the loss of Kikyō is still fresh for Inuyasha and Kagome realises there’s so much more to see and do besides falling in love , and they decide to remain as friends initially .   The two of them do , however , travel together in search of answers after realising something is wrong .Kagome is , for all intents and purposes , an immortal who does not seem capable of aging .   She heals rapidly from all manners of injury and it seems as though she cannot die , but she’s not willing to test much of it within reason ; after all , the shikōn shards were capable of healing grave wounds at a steep price , so she’s not sure she wants to know the price of the jewel’s power bringing her back .The running theory that Myōga came up with is that Kagome cannot age or die because she does not technically exist yet ; essentially , Kagome has become a paradox by staying nearly 500 years in the past before she was even born , let alone the year she fell down the well in the first place .   Thus , Kagome looks eagerly towards the year 2000 , hoping that she will resume aging and become normal again once the timeline has come full circle .   STATUS   plotting only     TIMELINE   pre - canonBefore her fifteenth birthday , Higurashi Kagome was like any other girl — she went to school , hung out with her friends , did her weekend chores on the shrine grounds , and generally acted as a normal teenager was expected to . Her childhood was relatively conventional , with the only real occurrence worth note being the passing of her father , Higurashi Kenji , in a tragic accident shortly before her little brother’s birth .   Other than crossing paths with a stranger , nothing else really sticks out about her childhood until the day she’d tumbled down the Bone Eater’s Well .

She jumped into the well willingly , reuniting with the love of her life and her family , expecting to never see her mother again . Thankfully , for her sacrifices to save the world from itself , the Kami had felt generous for her sake , and Kagome resumed being able to freely travel through the well to visit her family on the other side .   Staying at Inuyasha’s side as his mate , Kagome bridged past and present , living her own happily ever after .

Time travel through a magical well was not only apparently a thing , but yōkai were real as well !   It was just her luck that she wound up befriending a stubborn hanyō , a little kitsune she adopted as her own , a taijiya she’d come to see as her sister , and a lecherous hōshi . Not just that , though — oh , no , this schoolgirl not only saved the world , she changed it into something spectacular as well .and all while wearing her school uniform , too .
